Love For A Pricing Gun

I worked  at a local general store for thirteen years of my life. While there I developed a compulsive fixation on “my” pricing gun. Obviously it was never really mine. To prove that, I would often come in and a fellow employee would have it claimed.

I remember how smoothly the labels printed and how easy it was to price out a giant case of Band-Aides or a huge stack of coloring books. The action on the trigger worked perfectly. That clicking sounds as the label printed is something I still dream about. As my time at the store wore on, me and that pricing gun developed a symbiotic relationship. It fed me ($8.50 an hour plus all the soda I could drink) and I fed it (Garvy Labels).

As my time at the store came to an end that pricing gun was still working excellently. In fact, I just contacted my old boss and that same pricing gun STILL WORKS! It’s been at the store for 23 years. That is longer than any employee, save the owner and his son. Seems to me it might be the best money that the manager ever spent.
